BLBC2015 Online Fundraising Guidelines

Pieter Vorster

Hello all Boomer’s Legacy BC  2015 Riders,

We are aware of the issues that you are facing when it comes to trying to do online fundraising. Below follows a brief explanation of what is happening and what you can do to fundraise online towards our impending ride June 14-15:

Summary of current situation

  1. Late last year Boomer’s Legacy officially became one of the Support Our Troops programs, managed by the Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services. (View our press release here.)
  2. In accordance with this move we decided to utilise the same online fundraising software as the annual Canada Army Run for our 2014 rides, which brought a variety of problems of it’s own.
  3. This year our friends at Support Our Troops are trying to develop unique software that will both meet our online fundraising needs, and automatically present our donors with valid tax receipts. The future looks bright.
  4. Unfortunately the new system is not ready to be deployed yet, and so it seems we will make use of the resources that are available to us.

At this time the procurement of our peer to peer software that will be able to register events and offer the online donation function is in progress. The software is not yet ready to launch as there have been some technical issues linking to our financial framework, however our IT development team has been working very hard on this and we hope to have this ready for use in the coming months.

In the interim donations for your upcoming ride can be done on-line at:

https://www.cfmws.com/en/SupportOurTroops/DonateNow/Pages/mff_donate.aspx

When ride participants or their donors are submitting their donations, they should make sure to complete the line for Boomer’s Legacy; and then at the bottom of the page where it indicates “Activity/In memory of/In honour of:” the section should be completed with:

BLBC2015 (Participant’s Name) – rider.

With this option being completed our team will be able to process the on-line donations and pull a report indicating funds coming in specifically for your BC ride.

Remember! If you are participating in the 2015 Boomer’s Legacy British Columbia Ride and have not started training, now is the time to do so. The easiest way is to join our group, led by Greg Phelps and/or Dave Berry who leave from the Driftwood Mall parking area every Saturday morning at 8:30am. Expect a 30-50km ride with friendly, fun folks.

Over in Campbell River  our training rides are led by Boomer’s Legacy Ride Marshal Ron Gauderault, leaving the Campbell River Sportsplex every Saturday morning at 8:30am.
